Where to start Record of Lodoss War: begin with the 1990 OVA, episode 1, watch episodes 1-8, then go to Chronicles of the Heroic Knight (1998), episode 1. This Record of Lodoss War watch order follows the novels' story. The OVA's first eight episodes adapt the first novel: Parn, Deedlit and their party against Karla, the Grey Witch, in the war with Marmo. The last five OVA episodes (Episodes 9-13) ran ahead of the novels and tell a loose version of the next arc with an original ending. Chronicles of the Heroic Knight (Episodes 1-27) continues from the OVA but ignores those last five episodes, re-adapting that arc faithfully before moving on to Spark's story. OVA episodes 9-13 are optional; watch them for Madhouse's animation, not for the story. ## Recommended first watch Start with OVA episodes 1-8 (1990), then Chronicles of the Heroic Knight (27 episodes).
