The Saint Seiya watch order starts with the classic 1986 Toei series and its Hades Chapter sequel. Saint Seiya (Episodes 1-114) splits into three arcs: the Sanctuary arc (Episodes 1-73), where Seiya and the Bronze Saints protect Athena against the Gold Saints; the anime-original Asgard arc (Episodes 74-99), which is optional; and the Poseidon arc (Episodes 100-114). The four classic films from 1987-1989 are optional, non-canon side stories. The story then continues in the Hades Chapter OVAs: Sanctuary (Episodes 1-13), Inferno (Episodes 1-12) and Elysion (Episodes 1-6), which end the manga's story. Heaven Chapter Overture (2004) and Soul of Gold (2015) are optional follow-ups. The Lost Canvas (two 13-episode parts) is an optional prequel set 243 years earlier, Saintia Sho a spin-off, and Saint Seiya Omega (Episodes 1-97) a sequel with a new generation. Legend of Sanctuary (2014) and Netflix's Knights of the Zodiac (2019-2024) are CG retellings you can watch instead.

## FAQ

**What order should I watch Saint Seiya in?**

Watch Saint Seiya (114 episodes; the Asgard arc, 74-99, is optional filler), then the Hades Chapter: Sanctuary (13), Inferno (12) and Elysion (6). The films, Lost Canvas, Soul of Gold, Saintia Sho and Omega are optional extras; Knights of the Zodiac is a separate CG remake.

**Is the Saint Seiya Asgard arc filler?**

Yes. Episodes 74-99 are anime-original and not in the manga, so you can skip them. They are popular, though, and Soul of Gold later revisits Asgard.

**Where does the Hades Chapter fit?**

Right after the TV series. The Hades Chapter OVAs (Sanctuary, Inferno, Elysion, 2002-2008) adapt the manga's final arc and pick up after the Poseidon arc ends in episode 114.

**Do I need to watch the classic Saint Seiya before The Lost Canvas?**

It is best after. The Lost Canvas is a prequel set 243 years earlier with its own cast, but it assumes you know the Saints and the Holy War with Hades.

**Is Knights of the Zodiac (Netflix) a remake of Saint Seiya?**

Yes. It is a CG retelling of the classic story that changes some details, so watch it instead of, not after, the 1986 series.

**What is the chronological order of Saint Seiya?**

Start with Episodes 1-73 (Saint Seiya: Sanctuary Arc), then continue with Episodes 74-99 (Saint Seiya: Asgard Arc), Episodes 100-114 (Saint Seiya: Poseidon Arc), Saint Seiya: Evil Goddess Eris, Saint Seiya: The Heated Battle of the Gods, and Saint Seiya: Legend of Crimson Youth, followed by 15 more entries.
