Also known as .hack//SIGN
The .hack// watch order covers three TV runs across episodes 1-25, episodes 1-12 and episodes 1-27, plus the G.U. Trilogy film and a spread of OVAs. Start with episodes 1-25, then watch the Intermezzo, Unison and Gift OVAs before moving into episodes 1-12 and episodes 1-27. The G.U. Trilogy movie slots in afterward, followed by the Returner, Walking Party, Wired Prisoner and The World-end Pallbearer OVAs to close things out. This chronological order keeps the interconnected .hack storylines aligned, letting each side OVA land at the point it was meant to be seen rather than tacked on at the very end. If you want the correct order including all movies and OVAs without guessing where every piece fits, this is the sequence to follow, from the first episode straight through to the final OVA.
Watch in the order listed: .hack//SIGN (2002), Legend of the Twilight (12 episodes, 2003), Roots (2006) and then the G.U. Trilogy film (2008) and the Returner OVA (2007), which follows Roots.
The Intermezzo, Unison and Gift OVAs and the three Quantum OVA episodes (2010-2011) are optional extras.
Two TV block lengths on this page (SIGN 1-25, Roots 1-27) differ from Wikipedia and AniList, which list 26 episodes each.

AnimeChrono watch orders put every season, movie, OVA, ONA and special for a franchise in chronological story order, the order the events happen. When an OVA or movie takes place partway through a season, the episode range is split so it sits where it belongs. Entries you can skip are marked optional, and each order says where to start. Release order, sorted by air date, is a secondary view once every entry has a date. The orders began as a hand-curated set, and episode counts and air dates come from AniList. Fans maintain the orders from there. Any signed-in user can edit one. Edits from trusted contributors go live right away and the rest are reviewed first. Every change is versioned and can be reverted, and each order shows when it was last updated and last checked.

No. Intermezzo, Unison and Gift (2003) are optional side OVAs for .hack//SIGN, and the three .hack//Quantum OVAs (2010-2011) are optional extras. Wikipedia describes Gift as a comedy OVA made as a gift for players of the four .hack games.
Wikipedia and AniList list 26 episodes for each. The episode blocks on this page say 1-25 for SIGN and 1-27 for Roots, which does not match; a correction is proposed in the SQL file.
