Also known as Mushi-Shi, Mushishi Zoku Shou, Mushi-Shi: The Next Passage
The Mushishi watch order is short and almost fully episodic, so release order works best. Start with Mushishi (Episodes 1-26, 2005-2006), where the wandering mushi master Ginko helps villagers troubled by mushi, primitive life forms that most people cannot see. Nine years later, the one-hour special Hihamukage (2014) leads into Mushishi Zoku Shou, the Next Passage, which aired in two halves: Episodes 1-10, then Episodes 1-10 of part 2 (episodes 11-20 overall). Odoro no Michi (Path of Thorns), a Blu-ray episode, fits between the two halves. The film Suzu no Shizuku (Bell Droplets, 2015) adapts the manga's final arc and ends the anime. Because the stories stand alone, you can skip around, but save Suzu no Shizuku for last.
Watch Mushishi (26 episodes), Hihamukage, Zoku Shou part 1 (10), Odoro no Michi, Zoku Shou part 2 (10), then the Suzu no Shizuku film.
The stories are self-contained, so skipping around is fine; Suzu no Shizuku is the true ending.

AnimeChrono watch orders put every season, movie, OVA, ONA and special for a franchise in chronological story order, the order the events happen. When an OVA or movie takes place partway through a season, the episode range is split so it sits where it belongs. Entries you can skip are marked optional, and each order says where to start. Release order, sorted by air date, is a secondary view once every entry has a date. The orders began as a hand-curated set, and episode counts and air dates come from AniList. Fans maintain the orders from there. Any signed-in user can edit one. Edits from trusted contributors go live right away and the rest are reviewed first. Every change is versioned and can be reverted, and each order shows when it was last updated and last checked.

Mostly no. Almost every episode is a self-contained story about Ginko and the mushi. Release order is best, and the film Suzu no Shizuku should come last because it adapts the manga's ending.
Hihamukage (2014) goes between the 2005 series and Zoku Shou. Odoro no Michi goes between the two halves of Zoku Shou.
It is a continuation in the same episodic style, adapting the manga chapters the 2005 series skipped. You can start it without much setup, but the first series is the natural place to begin.
