Puella Magi Madoka Magica Watch Order
8 entries · · community-maintained
The Puella Magi Madoka Magica watch order runs the 12-episode TV series, all four films including Rebellion and Walpurgisnacht Rising, and the Magia Record side story in chronological order. Start with the 2011 series. The two 2012 films, Beginnings and Eternal, retell those 12 episodes with new footage, so they sit right after the show as an optional alternative rather than a requirement. Rebellion is the one film you cannot skip: it is a true sequel, and Walpurgisnacht Rising, released in 2026, picks up directly from its ending. Magia Record, the three-part spin-off built around the mobile game, takes place in an alternate timeline and is not needed to follow the films, so it closes the list as optional viewing you can slot in any time after the TV series. If you are wondering where to start or whether to watch the recap movies, the sequence below settles it, including all movies and the side story in the correct order.

How this order works
AnimeChrono watch orders put every season, movie, OVA, ONA and special for a franchise in chronological story order, the order the events happen. When an OVA or movie takes place partway through a season, the episode range is split so it sits where it belongs. Entries you can skip are marked optional, and each order says where to start. Release order, sorted by air date, is a secondary view once every entry has a date. The orders began as a hand-curated set, and episode counts and air dates come from AniList. Fans maintain the orders from there. Any signed-in user can edit one. Edits from trusted contributors go live right away and the rest are reviewed first. Every change is versioned and can be reverted, and each order shows when it was last updated and last checked.
