Record of Lodoss War Watch Order

Also known as Lodoss-tou Senki, Lodoss War, Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight, Lodoss-tou Senki: Eiyuu Kishi Den, Welcome to Lodoss Island!
Where to start Record of Lodoss War: begin with the 1990 OVA, episode 1, watch episodes 1-8, then go to Chronicles of the Heroic Knight (1998), episode 1. This Record of Lodoss War watch order follows the novels' story. The OVA's first eight episodes adapt the first novel: Parn, Deedlit and their party against Karla, the Grey Witch, in the war with Marmo. The last five OVA episodes (Episodes 9-13) ran ahead of the novels and tell a loose version of the next arc with an original ending. Chronicles of the Heroic Knight (Episodes 1-27) continues from the OVA but ignores those last five episodes, re-adapting that arc faithfully before moving on to Spark's story. OVA episodes 9-13 are optional; watch them for Madhouse's animation, not for the story.

How this order works
AnimeChrono watch orders put every season, movie, OVA, ONA and special for a franchise in chronological story order, the order the events happen. When an OVA or movie takes place partway through a season, the episode range is split so it sits where it belongs. Entries you can skip are marked optional, and each order says where to start. Release order, sorted by air date, is a secondary view once every entry has a date. The orders began as a hand-curated set, and episode counts and air dates come from AniList. Fans maintain the orders from there. Any signed-in user can edit one. Edits from trusted contributors go live right away and the rest are reviewed first. Every change is versioned and can be reverted, and each order shows when it was last updated and last checked.
